Facts:

Defendant, who was acquitted of several other crimes, appealed his conviction by the Circuit Court (Maryland) for second degree assault which resulted in a 10-year sentence. Defendant argued, inter alia, that the trial court erred by failing to advise him of the nature of the charges in the charging document, and the allowable penalties, including mandatory penalties, if any, as required by Md. R. 4-215(a)(3).
